The Rotary Club of Corrimal are now the proud operators and organisers of the Wollongong Twilight Markets.
Previously run by Wollongong Council, this year, the operation of the monthly food market was put to tender by Council, calling for interested charitable organisations to operate the popular market.
Food and fun: The Corrimal Rotary Club has taken over management of Wollongong’s Twilight markets at Flagstaff Hill and is giving each market a theme. The theme for the Christmas market was Random Acts of Kindness.
Corrimal Rotary Club successfully won the tender and have been delighted to be running the market since last October.
The Twilight Markets are held at Flagstaff Hill on the first Friday of each month, each year from October to March.
Currently, there are 25 stallsfocusing on international food.
“We have been delighted to put the Corrimal Rotary Club’s touch on this popular market,”the club’s Kay Mireylees said.
“Each month, we theme the market, highlighting Rotary initiatives and the Rotary ethos.
“At our spring market, we promoted our work assisting farming communities.
“At the Christmas market, we themed ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ – which don’t cost money but are personally giving of time.
“We distributed a random acts of kindness card from our ‘Giving Tree’, askingeach person receiving a cardto carry out that random act of kindness, take a photo and post a photo of them carrying out that assigned kindness act to Facebook or Instagram with the hashing – wollongongtwilightmarkets.
“Rotary clubs help our communities every day.This initiative enables others to become involved too andhelp the community by undertaking a Random Act of Kindness,” Kay said.
The best, unique “random act of kindness” posted on Facebook, will win a voucher for dinner at the next Twilight Market. Entries close at midnight on December 31, 2016. The winner will be announced on Instagram and Facebook onJanuary 2,2017and published to Wollongongtwilightmarkets and Corrimal Rotary Club social media accounts.
The next market will be held onFriday,January 6, 2017, at which a bright new year will be heralded in with a ‘neon’ theme“Bright Lights”promoting the Rotary clubs’ of the Illawarra’s Imagination Library.
