Le Cavalier continued an impressive preparation with a barnstorming win in the $25,000 Stan Sadleir Stakes (1400m) at Murrumbidgee Turf Club on Friday.

Le Cavalier, ridden by Canberra apprentice Rachel Hunt, edged out Marquee by three quarters of a length as both came with charging runs from back in the field.

Gardner has got the best out ofLe Cavalier by spacing his runs but is tempted to back the six-year-old up for a crack at Friday week’s Ted Ryder Cup –MTC’s summer feature.

“At this stage, he’ll be coming back,” Gardner said.

“He’s a horse that I like to space his runs out but he’ll go to the paddock after that anyway.”

Le Cavalier has always been a model of consistency but has a bad knack of being on the wrong end of photo finishes.
