Christmas is all that, and a few bags of chips

Posted by on 18/07/2018

Six sleeps to go!

This has been the busiest lead up to Christmas I can remember, but I have managed to get some presents under the tree and there are a few in the top cupboard.

Our home is literally sparkling with tinsel, baubles and lights, while our tree is an absolute delight.I didn’t touch a needle this year.

The girls put up the tree completely on their own, with 14-year-old Katianna taking on the role of lead decorator with the final say.

I love, love, love this time of year, and now I’m really feeling it, while last week I was just feeling panicked.

The girls have decided that I finally hit on a winner last year by cooking a crispy topped potato bake with creamy garlic and lemon thyme sauce, and I’ve managed to find the recipe.

I’m going to give a rolled pork a go, and three trifles will be underway soon as I make one for Christmas day, one for Boxing Day and one for Kym – it’s only once a year.

I haven’t had any time for Christmas baking this year, but 12-year-old Yasinta has hit the kitchen to make up a couple of batches of shortbread that have received rave lunchbox reviews.

When her note for the class party came home, she simply set to and baked her own batch of brownies to take along.

When Tiani brought home her class break-up party note with ‘two to threebags of chips’highlighted, I almost cried with gratitude.

My poor 10-year-old baby girl had felt obliged to explain that mummy was feeling a little busy and might not be making the reindeer gingerbread biscuits with jaffa noses this year.

I’m pretty sure they won’t be missed.

How glad am I to have my kitchen back after four months of one-pot wonders in the lounge room and dishes in the ensuite basin?

I’m so glad I’m giggly.

As if that isn’t gift enough, after a glorious Christmas Eve service at church we get to go to my mum’s place for Christmas day, with lots of family for company.

It doesn’t get any better than that.

I wish you a peaceful Christmas, where you draw on the most powerful force in the universe to get you through, that of love.

Hang in there and have a good one.
